❧ About the Concert
During his lifetime, Schubert's music was rarely heard in public concert halls. Instead, he and his circle of poets, painters, singers, and fellow intellectuals gathered for intimate evenings in private homes, sharing his songs, piano works, and chamber music in a warm, convivial setting. These gatherings became known as a Schubertiade. We invite you to our very own Schubertiade to experience that same spirit... an afternoon of Schubert's solo piano and songs in our intimate salon setting, just as the composer would have known.
Musicians from the Vancouver Schubertiade Salon Series will present a selection of Schubert Lieder (art songs) and solo piano works - soprano Szu-Wen Wang, pianist Ronald Sat, and mezzo-soprano Lynda Clarke reading the poems that Schubert set to music.
This is our first collaboration with musicians from the Vancouver Schubertiade Salon Series, and given the extraordinary scope of Schubert's works, we hope this will be the first of many Schubertiades with them in the Salon!

❧ About The Musicians
Praised for her “incandescent intonation” and “taste, restraint and good vocal control” (Opera Canada), soprano Szu-Wen Wang has received acclaimed reviews for her performances. A versatile musician, Szu-Wen has performed with Vancouver Opera, Vancouver City Opera, Vancouver Island Opera, North Shore Light Opera Society, Opera Appassionata, DragonDiva Operatic Theatre, the Handel Society of Music, Vancouver Pro Musica, Pacific Chamber Music Academy, and the Postmodern Camerata. Szu-Wen is currently a member of the Vancouver Opera Chorus and is also a passionate voice teacher. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Voice Performance from the Taipei National University of the Arts, Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts in Voice Performance from the University of Texas at Austin.
Extolled as “an excellent pianist” by the Washington Post, Ronald Sat has performed recitals in notable venues across the United States including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Kennedy Centre and National Gallery of Art. His foreign engagements have taken him to Puerto Rico, Iceland, Portugal, Switzerland, Hong Kong, and Macau. Ronald earned his Doctor of Musical Arts from Cleveland Institute of Music, Master of Music from Eastman School of Music and Bachelor of Music from University of British Columbia. A recipient of the Chamber Music America/WQXR Record Award, he co-founded the Solstice Music Festival in New York City in 2004, presenting three successful seasons in Lower Manhattan. Ronald has served on the faculty of Centenery College of Louisiana and University of Texas Pan American. He is a Steinway artist, former director of the Pacific Chamber Music Academy and founding member of the Schubertiade Salon Series.
Lynda Clarke, mezzo-soprano, completed her Bachelor of Music at the University of British Columbia School of Music. While there, she was excited to sing with the University Singers under James Fankhauser and the University Chamber Singers under Cortland Hultberg. Following university, Lynda studied with Selena James at the Victoria Conservatory of Music, and it was there that she performed opera and musical theatre, one of her favourite roles being Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro. Lynda has also performed at Victoria’s Fringe Fest, Royal City Musicals, Applause! Musicals, Vancouver Cantata Singers and The Gallery Singers, and has done voice over work for various instructional DVDs.
