Mahogany Swing Band

About the Event

Mahogany Swing Band is a Vancouver-Island based jazz ensemble led by pianist Patrick Courtin and vocalist Simon Paterson. At this concert they will be joined by special guest, Steve Wallace on bass. The band’s sound is full of hard-swinging jazz, soulful blues and lush ballads. They are dedicated to their love of swinging jazz standards, particularly the Great American Songbook. They draw from classic singers: Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Nat King Cole, etc, and interpret their work with a highly personal style informed by both modern and classic jazz.

Patrick is comfortably at home in many genres of music, having played in professional ensembles in jazz, classical, rock, funk and musical theatre. Patrick regularly leads his own bands, from his piano trio playing original jazz and arrangements, to funk and soul bands, to hot jazz bands playing swing dances. Patrick has also recorded 2 full-length albums. The first is a trio album of jazz standards and Patrick’s original music. The second is the debut album of Patrick’s jazz group Mahogany Swing Band, a collaboration with singer Simon Paterson. This performance marks Patricks's second appearance in the Salon.
